Roof Light Covers
We supply and install roof light covers. Roof light covers are an extremely effective way of eliminating the risk inherent with fragile roof lights. Of particular danger are the inline roof lights found on metal clad roofs. These are hard to see, especially as they become soiled, and many people each year accidently stand on and fall through fragile roof lights. Older roof lights will almost certainly be fragile. Modern roof lights are usually installed as non-fragile ‘Class B’, which means they can handle a single impact but may then become fragile. Also these roof lights will degrade over time through the action of the sun. Do not assume any roof light is safe to stand on!
Many metal clad roofs are now fitted with safety lines. It is important to remember that if someone were to fall on a safety line their feet would likely end up at least 5 metres below roof level. Often the area below the roof lights does not have 6m of fall clearance (5 metres plus 1 metre safety margin) due to racking or a mezzanine office. For this reason even where roofs are fitted with safety lines, consideration should also be given to the risk posed by fragile roof lights.
Our roof light covers prevent accidental falls through roof lights whilst still allowing through the majority of the light. We also provide guard rail solutions for raised fragile roof lights.
